Hard Copy, The Musical

If printers were like people, then I wouldn't mind if my old HP Laserjet 4050 were Michael Douglas or Billy Joel or any other cradle robber for that matter. Sadly, in the world of technology, old stuff only goes with other old stuff. New equipment wants nothing to do with knobby knees-heart attack prone-Viagra popping old timers, like Catherine Zeta-Jones is willing to put up with. New gadgets don't learn old systems so don't get too sentimental with that hoo-ha.

It would've drove my dad crazy. He couldn't replace anything unless it was worn down to nubs with electric tape holding it together. My dad learned how to type - slowly - on an electric typewriter. That's as technologically advanced as he got.

Me? I'm not that gadget-happy either, but that's because we're broke. When the old laptop that ran the old printer died around the same time Zuki completely tore the soles off his sneakers, well - I broke down and used our limited funds to get the kid new footwear. I could've gone to my favorite shop for shoes - the 99 cent store. Actually, I did and they only had Crocs knock-offs. THREE dollars - that's ridiculous.

So, I tried to get my new laptop to run the ancient printer. It took all...freaking...day. And I got nothing. It won't even see it - like No way - talk to the hand!

I have to thank "Geek Girl," Cheryl for her advice (and check out her blog, by the way). In the end, I managed to get our printer going by hooking it up to the Mac computer we purchased the year Zuki was born. In other words, it's a dinosaur. A functional dinosaur. Like Mick Jagger.

This footage shows all the old equipment we got rid of over the years. It's a musical. Samu's rendition of "Twinkle Twinkle" - it has a violent ending.

    1. Thank you for helping me out! As for the little guy, he was 2 yrs old in this clip. Still a singer, only a little bigger.

  2. All musicals should have cool, violent endings! I'd watch lots more of 'em then.

    1. Well...most operas end with death rather than a fat lady, but I wouldn't watch another one unless it was directed by Quentin Tarantino.

    1. Even cubicles are outdated! Everybody telecommutes these days. Is it any wonder that hackers are the biggest growing occupation?

  4. My Mac died a slow and painful death and came back and then died and then came back and then died. I type this on Hot Joe's Macbook. My computer is a PC and it's actually owned by the company for whom I work (nice grammar, right?). We're just waiting. And waiting. And waiting. For the money my gramma left. One more week and I get a nice fancy laptop and a couch/large chair. Noah (also gets money) gets a someone less fancy laptop. And we will all sit in the living room switching between laptops and iPhones (iPod in Noah's case). Ahhh technology. And money from dead grammas.

    1. You're lucky, my grandma didn't leave me nuthin! Well, she left a house that was stolen by my uncle's girlfriend. I promise to blog about that sometime.

  5. Mick Jagger is awesome, even if he is old as dirt. My wife can’t stand him and his wrinkled face. Too bad for her, I say.

I’m admire your will power to get the prehistoric printer up and running. I would’ve long ago thrown the damn thing out the window.

Technology –we have a love/hate relationship. Computers are just too darn expensive nowadays and I’d rather use the one I have until it just won’t function any longer.

I haven't been in a 99cent store since LA, back in the late 90's.

    1. Give your wife a hug for me - I completely understand! Mick Jagger was hot when he was young but now? Let's just say he should do more performances shaking his butt to the audience...

  6. I saw the video first with Ayana Rhys aka the part time cat, and all the while I was thinking, does Nami just popped another boy or did she forgot to mention Kazuki and Isamu had another brother? :)

Anyhow, we love the rendetion, it's Rhys' favorite song btw. I especially love the violent ending! Hahaha!

P.S. Is the phone intentionally left hanged? Or is it one of your tricks? :) Happy Sunday friend!

    1. The phone is actually unplugged! Both boys had very itchy fingers when it came to the speed dial - we're lucky they never called 911.

  8. Last time we wanted to print something we needed ink. After going to walmart we realized it was actually more cost effective to buy a NEW PRINTER rather than buy ink!
