Beauties And The Midget Beasts

The boys met Rebecca and Melissa - pictured here. These beautiful girls are the daughters of very good friends who moved to New Zealand when the girls were wee tots. The reason this meeting was so special to me was because of who was missing - my sister.

Long story short: my sister died thirteen years ago and I've had very little or rather, no contact with her daughter. My niece and Rebecca were best friends when they were babies. They're the same age, so seeing Rebecca now, is a reflection in time of how my niece must be doing.

I feel like their aunt by association - approximately five degrees of separation. These lovely ladies are not my daughters but because I like to take credit for things I didn't do, I am so proud of them. The boys, especially Zuki, are totally in love. I'm glad he has such excellent taste. They're smart, gorgeous and entirely so sweet, my teeth are rotting thinking about it. Damn, I'm really getting old.

  1. I can't imagine what that must be like for you - losing contact with your sister's child. I love my nephews like they're mine. And to lose your SISTER? Unfathomable.

    1. It was one of those curve balls life throws at you - can't say you ever get over it. Just trudge through. My sister and I were very close and it does break my heart but I have faith she's looking out for her children. One day, I'll see them again...

  3. I can't believe that so much time has past, I was always very grateful to you for inviting me to your birthday party all those years ago. It was the last time that I saw your sister, and even thou I didn't get to speak to her that evening, or ever again, it was nice to be in the same room with the both of you!
All those things we lost will be found again! I recently found a tin that I had filled with 70 pennies, which I had placed into after reciting 70,000 prayers for your sister Sono,
a penny for each thousand prayers I said for her.
I hope you see your niece again! You have a nephew as well?

  4. Nami! I've read about your sister here, and I hope you'll have tons of time and opportunities to bond in the future. (I'm crossing my fingers this comment will go through! for some reason, I am very unsuccessful in posting comments here for days already, i'm literally pulling my hair in frustration waaaaah. Help?)

    1. Yes, I'd rather adopt than try having one of my own. Really, thank heavens for little girls - they make fantastic women.

    1. Thanks, Maureen. Yes, they are beautiful. Zuki wants Rebecca to pick him up from school instead of me. I should comb my hair.

  8. Oh. I get behind on my blog stalking, and you go and post something that's sad and sweet and sentimental all at the same time. :( I'm so, so sorry about your sister...really sorry.

    1. Thanks, Michelle - I miss my sister but she lets me know she's still around. Like when I find a perfect parking spot.
