After 7 tries, Zuki gets his brother to smile |
"If you don't go to school, you'll have to go to work in a coal mine," I told him.
"Okay," he said.
I let out sigh thinking he meant okay to going back to school. But then, he said, "I'll go to work."
As we got closer to the mayhem in the schoolyard, I felt the palm of his hand in mine getting sweaty and limp. "Let's just go home," he whimpered.
Poor guy.
In the belly of the beast, which is the schoolyard the first day of school, there was the usual chaos. There was also the fleeting joy of seeing former classmates after two long months, then discovering they are in a different class. At this point, Samu doesn't know whether to laugh or cry. So he does both.
In the line for his class, he sees a friend - but the friend is already crying. And that makes him cry as he pathetically waves hello. On the first day of school, crying is contagious.
The new teacher consoling the Crying Duo - "I'll only torture you a little bit, okay?" |
"I'll go to bed after I finish this last chapter!" |
poor samu. school is like jail, remember?
ReplyDeleteIt's actually the same jail I was incarcerated in.
DeleteAwww Samu...my son is like that too "I don't wanna go to school" well I heard that daily and I told him if he doesn't want to go to school he can live on the street lol talk about being a mean mommy.
ReplyDeleteLiving on the street vs working in the coal mine - it's not mean if it's realistic. Then again, there are no coal mines in New York.
DeleteAwe... you're right. It doesn't get any easier. It makes you want to join the crying fest. Is it really the same school you attended? That has to give you mixed feelings. :)
ReplyDeleteYep, same school. It seemed so much bigger then, now we're so overcrowded, we're using the facilities of two Catholic schools that closed.
DeleteOkay so at first I thought every child in Samu's class had some kind of wild deformity. Then I realized you attempted to blur them out to protect their identity but kind of suck ass at it. Bless his heart. I wanted to fly out there and hug him. Did you hug him?
ReplyDeleteNah, I just poked him in the ribs. Then I hugged him but by that time he was hysterical. As for the face blur, it became a little mesmerizing turning the picture project into "The Ring" kind of thing. But you're right, I suck ass at it.
ReplyDeleteA big laughter. Thank you, Nami!
ReplyDeleteYou have long since graduated from that, Minoru-san!
DeleteI wish I could say I was a Zuki when it came to school, but I was a Samu through and through. Poor guy. I can totally identify...only, to top it all off, I'm a sucky cartoonist.
ReplyDeleteIronically, Samu does well in school, while Zuki...let's just say if there was a grade for "socializing" it would bump up his average.
DeleteI'd cry if you weren't in my class. This is like school right?
ReplyDeletePoor kid, I'm glad things got better:)
At 10pm he came downstairs because he thought he had unfinished homework! How's that for work ethic.
DeleteAww...I chuckled when he wanted to choose a coal mine over school. Poor kid. Hopefully it's better now.
ReplyDeleteWay better. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteThe photo captions just tickles me!! You are a genius really Nami! Hahaha! As for the Samu, I'm sure he'll be breezing through this school year.
ReplyDeleteHe's already leaving me for his teacher! The louse.
